A Sherman's Fox squirrel sitting up in some roadside grass, This subspecies of Fox squirrel is protected inn Florida and is also found in Georgia. They are becoming rare, mainly due to habitat loss. the white nose and white ears identify this as a Sherman's subspecies (Sciurus niger shermani). The large size and big bushy tail identify it as a Fox Squirrel. I saw this near a ranch in central Florida.
