Artist's Description

An Atala butterfly (Eumaeus atala) sips nectar from a small flower. These beautiful little butterflies were once near extinction due to loss of habitat and the lack of the host plant Coontie, on which the larvae feed. They have made a recovery in recent years because many people plant coontie around their homes.
