Artist's Description

A view of the historic Gamecock Cottage circa 1870s. The cottage is an example of Rural Gothic or Carpenter Gothic architecture. The view is from Sand Street Beach in Stony Brook, NY. In the late 1800s and early 1900s this was an important ship building area for small ships. Salt marsh Cord Grass (Spartina alternaflora) is in the foreground.
