The sun pops up through the clouds in the morning at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. A cabbage palm towers over the mangroves. A small mangrove tree is reflected in a pond along with the sky. The sky is orange, reminiscent of a drink called Tequila Sunrise, made with orange juice, and a song by the same name. Just behind and under the sun is a big wide old pine tree. The bald eagles nest in such pines and use them to survey the land around in search of waterfowl, fish and other animals it preys upon.
