Description
Many of the monasteries in Romania are fortified, as to prevent them from being attacked. These include thick walls around the grounds, towers and turrets, all designed to protect the church or monastery from invading forces. I guess back in the day, the thing to do was destroy your enemies places of worship. This tower was built in defense of one of the "Painted Monasteries" in northeastern Romania.
